

What is Theatre Slam?
Young Champs Agency is proud to present Theatre Slam 2021, the very first nationwide acting competition for young actors aged 6 - 18.
An initiative to promote a more robust student theatre movement, Theatre Slam is a national acting competition for passionate amateur actors. This platform offers an opportunity for acting students to display their confidence, effective articulation, teamwork and love of language through the practice of drama and performing.
Contestants will compete across six exciting categories and showcase their craft to a panel of distinguished judges that includes some of the most reputed names in the industry.
Theatre Slam will be a fun, challenging and educational event to awaken an appreciation and understanding of dramatic creation, practice and performance amongst students.

Judges

Richard Tan
Richard Tan wears many creative hats. He is presently, the Artistic Director of GenerAsia Limited, a non-profit theatre arts company, dedicated to grooming local talents and promoting Asian works for the younger generation. He is also a cultural consultant to many heritage organisations, having founded the Peranakan theatre company ‘The Main Wayang Company’ back in 2004, with the aim to revive of all things Peranakan. As Creative Consultant, Show Director & Choreographer, his multi-talented expertise has been much sought after by corporate organizers & show producers for TV Variety Shows, Musicals, Peranakan Plays, Commercial Launches, Conventions / Industrial Shows, Charity Concerts & Cultural Exchange Programmes, both locally / overseas.
In the past, Richard had co-founded ‘ShowFest Pte Ltd’ an events consultancy company producing milestone events for Singapore. From 1996 - 2012, he was a co-founder and director of ‘Dance Circle Studios’ a dance school specializing in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Musical-theatre, Hip-Hop and Spanish dance forms. In 1984, he was a Choreographer with SAF Music & Drama Company where he later became Artistic Director (Dance) until 1998.

Neo Swee Lin
Neo Swee Lin trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She also has a law degree from NUS.
She has appeared in over 40 plays including Circle Mirror Transformation, Falling, Romeo & Juliet, Cooling Off Day, Nadirah, Poop, Postcards from Rosa, First Lght, Beauty World, Cogito, Homesick, 2nd Link, For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again, Cinderel-lah!, The Crucible, Ah Kong’s Birthday Party, Hamlet, The Glass Menagerie, Half Lives, M. Chermaine Ang
With more than 20 years of experience in the theatre industry, Chermaine Ang is a veteran in the local theatre scene. She has been thrilling audiences with her versatility, starring in numerous high profile productions with all the major leading theatre companies in Singapore. Chermaine’s memorable roles include starring roles in Wild Rice’s Boeing Boeing, SRT’s Boom and TheatreWorks’ Lovepuke.
Chermaine is also a highly sought after drama educator who has worked extensively with secondary schools for the past 20 years, winning multiple accolades for the schools under her charge. She is dedicated to educate, nurture and inspire the next generation of theatre actors and actresses. Under her guidance, many of her students have blossomed into capable talents whilst pursuing their love for the performing arts.
She is excited to be on the panel of judges for this year’s Theatre’s Slam! She can’t wait to witness the up and coming future stars of Singapore!
